BIOGRAPHY

Maurizio Balzola composer of concert music, film music and piano concert player, was born in Rome on 13/02/1966.
In 1976, when he was only ten years old, he interpreted the role of "second child" in the opera "The submerged bell" by Ottorino Respighi recorded at the Auditorium of the Foro Italico, with the Rai Orchestra of Rome directed by Maestro Bruno Bartoletti .

After obtaining a diploma in piano at the "Licinio Refice" conservatory in Frosinone under the guidance of M ° Ornella Grossi and a diploma in composition at the "Lorenzo Perosi" conservatory in Campobasso under the guidance of M ° Teresa Procaccini, she attended courses specialization course for concert music composer, film soundtrack composer and solo pianist at the musical academy “Il pentagramma - Diaz European Studies Center”.

His activity as a composer takes place both for concert music and for soundtracks for Rai and for various production companies  among which we remember "Media Picture International".


Regarding his activity as a concert music composer, he was proposed for the “Nomination at the Grammy Awards 2019” in the United States of America for the cd “Radiance”.

 

He is the author of a vast production that includes music for solo, chamber and symphonic instruments.


Music by Maurizio Balzola has been broadcast by various American and North American broadcasters: Kucoclassical radio, Edmond; Ckua radio network, Edmonton, AB, Aanada; Wfsu public media, Tallahassee, FL; Wxxi, Rochester, NY; WCNY, Syracuse, NY; Wblv; FM, Twin lake, MI; Alabama public radio, Tuscaloosa, AL .; as well as performed in various rooms: Saint Peter chapel - John Fitzgerald Kennedy Blvd and Glenwood ave _ Jersey City; St 'Paul's roman catholic church 200 Wyckoff ave, Ramsey, NJ 07446 (where Maurizio Balzola's name appears next to that of Ennio Morricone); New Jersey flute society shea performing arts center William Paterson University; Anderson Hall - unitarian society of Ridgewood - 113 cottage place - Ridgewood, NJ 07450 - United States; Rai auditorium in Palermo.

His compositions have been performed by performers of the caliber of the pianist Massimiliano Damerini, the American flautist Patricia Lazzara, the American pianist Dave Malyszko, the American violinist Donna Imirisek, the Japanese soprano Mayumi Kuroki.

Since March 2023 he has begun a fruitful collaboration with the Roman publisher "GDE Edizioni musicali" which has edited  the score of four compositions by Maurizio Balzola. The first entitled Medioriente/Europa for orchestra, the second Dreams ten original compositions for piano composed of ten original compositions by Maurizio Balzola, the third Cyrus the great for orchestra and the fourth Joyful melancholy ten original pieces for chamber music composed of ten original compositions by Maurizio Balzola for chamber music. All four scores are available on Amazon and other stores. A copy of the four scores is deposited at the central national library of Florence and at the regional archive of Rome.

Regarding the activity of composer of soundtracks, in 2021 the cd "Romances in blue" was released in the USA containing two compositions by Maurizio Balzola, "Kiss" and "Eternity of a love" performed by the great American flutist Patricia Lazzara and by the excellent pianist Allison Brewster Franzetti, and compositions by other authors: first of all Ennio Morricone.

He has composed music for Rai programs such as "Horizons green line", "Time and history", "Ballaro" etc.

For the Rai TV series "It's never too late" he composed the song "Ecstasy".

The music publishing company Raitrade (now Raicom) has published two CDs composed by Maurizio Balzola entitled “Scripta manent” - rtcd 208 and “Tra serio e faceto” - rtcd 347 frequently used in various Rai documentaries and columns.

He is the author of the soundtrack of the Rai medium-length film “Paolo Emilio Taviani and Genova - resistance is an indispensable value”.

For Anas - motorway company, he composed the soundtrack of five documentaries produced by the film and television production company “Media Picture International”.

At the "Lux vide spa" he carried out the activity of head of the music section interacting with musicians of the level of Ennio Morricone and Nicola Piovani.

For the same production company he worked as a music consultant for the Rai series “Don Matteo 2”.

He is the author of the soundtrack of the film "Sympatheia".

For the theater he had an experience in 2005 writing the music for the musical comedy “Miseria e nobiltà '”, receiving the praise of the director Carlo Lizzani present in the room.
 

With reference to the concert activity he has held and holds concerts both as a soloist and in duo with the American flutist Patricia Lazzara, in various halls and churches and theaters in  Italy and abroad.

We remember the "Four Angels" room in Palazzo Barberini in Rome, the "Palazzo Chigi" room in Ariccia, the "Keiros" theater in Rome, the "Casa Balthasar" room in Rome, the "Academic center for education, culture and research ”by Mashhad - Khorasan Razavi (Iran).

She performed music by Bach and Satie in the program "Living speaking" conducted by Gigliola Cinquetti with the artistic direction of Pupi Avati where she received compliments from the great actress Franca Valeri, guest of the program.

He has participated in various national and international competitions both as a composer of film music, as a composer of concert music, and as a solo pianist.

We recall, the “TIM International Tournament of Turin where he is the winner of the diploma of merit, conferred by Maestro Luigi Fait, in the composers category; the “Reina Sofia” of Barcelona where she received a written note of merit from the international jury for the composition with which she participated.

He has held composition masterclasses dedicated to the composition of soundtracks  at the “Giuseppe Martucci” conservatory in Salerno and at the “Keiros” theater in Rome.

He taught piano at “AS Academy” (international academy) from 2015 to 2020.

He was interviewed several times on television and by Vatican Radio (in the program “The musical hippogriff”).

Vatican Radio has also released music by Maurizio Balzola taken from the CD “Scripta manent” in the column "With you in the night".

Various newspapers have been interested in the musician's activity, including "Amadeus - the monthly of great music" which dedicated an article to the Maestro, written by the great musicologist and music critic Vesna Maria Brocca, entitled "Maurizio Balzola tra i different genres ".

The same journalist carried out an online interview entitled “Talking with the composer Maurizio Balzola” and interviewed him in the "SARTDUST" Musical Lounge.

Since October 2020 he has been President of the "Poliformativa" Cultural Association, a position to which he was unanimously reconfirmed until October 2025.

He has been married since 2018 to the Iranian luthier, actress and model Fatemeh Tondkar.
